Barcelona defeated Real Madrid (4:0) on the road in the 11th round of La Liga
Head coach Barcelona Hans-Dieter Flick commented on the away victory in El Clasico over Real (4:0).
“Everyone followed the plan we put in place and gave 100%. We knew how to defend well and stuck to our ideas, although Real didn’t give us much space. We controlled the ball much better in the second half, but the whole team did an outstanding job.”
“I’m proud of this team. Because we also managed to keep a clean sheet thanks to the great contribution of Iñaki Pena. And the fans deserve this victory too. They have an amazing connection with the players. I’m delighted to be working in Barcelona.”
In yesterday’s game, Barcelona ended Real Madrid’s 42-match unbeaten streak in La Liga. The Blancos were only one game short of repeating the record that belongs to Barcelona – from 2017 to 2018, the Catalans went on a streak of 43 La Liga matches in a row without defeat.
Barcelona has strengthened its lead in La Liga – it is now six points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid. Of the 11 matches played in the national championship, Flick’s team won 10, the only misfire took place in Pamplona against Osasuna.
In the next round, Barcelona will face the Catalan derby – they will host Espanyol at home on November 3.
