On Sunday, the Stepanova/Bukin dance pair won gold in the first stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Magnitogorsk, scoring 207.40 points in a total of two dances. The second place was taken by Irina Khavronina/David Narizhny (204.46), the third by Sofya Leontyeva/Daniil Gorelkin (193.64).
Boukine: It’s not about first place, but about the great work we’ve done over the last month. Here we showed most of what we had developed. I want to go home and exhale. It was nervous, but fun.
Stepanova: The public supported us a lot, it’s incomparable to anything. Simply incredible.

Boukine: No matter how great you are, the jury sees everything. We are not forgiven for mistakes, just like internationally experienced couples. When you finish your career your name helps, but here you have to work day by day.
Stepanova: There is no such thing as being loved and respected, so we can relax. For us, competitions are incredibly interesting, it stimulates us.
Boukine: We will not give our place to anyone, we will work so that no one has any questions. We are passionate about our work and we love it. We missed this kind of work because last season was a disaster. We do not lose our interest in training; without it we could finish safely. The competitors are great, I want to congratulate everyone.
Stepanova: “We have great potential, we feel it in training, despite our age and our experience of international tournaments, which most of the dancers here do not have”, reports the correspondent of according to Stepanova’s words /Bukin.
Stepanova is 29 years old, Bukin is 31 years old. They are three-time Russian champions and two-time European Championship silver medalists.
