Lakernik believes raising the age limit for women’s figure skating led to problems

Honorary vice-president of the International Skating Union (ISU), Alexander Lakernik, said that raising the age limit for women’s figure skating has led to problems that need to be resolved.

In 2022, the ISU decided to raise the minimum age of skaters for admission to adult competitions to 17 years old starting from the 2024/25 season.

— We need to understand what is happening in women’s singles skating. As we age, this leads to problems that need to be resolved. The big question is how women’s individual skating will develop. This question is under study.

In conclusion, I want to say that we are not allowed to participate in international competitions, but we hold competitions with a large number of spectators throughout Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, etc. And among these cities Magnitogorsk proudly stands, which can compete with cities with more than a million inhabitants as a venue for the Grand Prix,” reports a correspondent, reporting Lakernik’s words.

From October 26 to 27, Magnitogorsk hosts the first stage of the Russian Figure Skating Grand Prix. In women’s single skating, Anna Frolova became the champion, and in men’s singles, Mark Kondratyuk.
