Double world champion Eugene Medvedeva said she was happy to legalize somersaults in figure skating.
Previously, the International Skating Union (ISU) allowed the performance of somersaults in figure skating.
— Is it possible to invent a new element in unique figure skating? Or is everything already there?
— For many years people have been trying to invent something new, but it seems that not everyone succeeds. Perhaps new choreographic elements are created and become sensations. For example, they recently allowed me to do somersaults, which I am incredibly happy about. Yes, there is a risk for the athlete, but it seems to me that elements like a quadruple axel are riskier to perform than a backflip. Elements are invented, at least people are trying to do it, but so far in vain,” Medvedeva said in a video she posted on her Telegram channel.
