Godong on participating in the Swimming World Cup: ‘There was no negativity’

Russian swimming champion Nika Godun told that she didn’t feel any negativity during her performance at the World Cup in Incheon.

Guodong started this competition last week. It was his first major international start in the last two and a half years.

– Nika, how did it go? How is the atmosphere?

— So far, in my practice, and unlike other athletes, during these two years when I participated in numerous competitions, there has been no situation in which someone would not be happy to see me. Everyone was very happy, some were maybe a little surprised, but there was no negativity. No one was offended or violated, everyone had high expectations of us.

— You are hardly satisfied with the seconds, but I don’t really understand, did you have the chance to acquire some sort of competitive tone before Incheon?

“Everything was decided at the last moment and inserting competitions into preparation like this is not easy. It’s not that I’m very upset, it’s the work that counts. Before that, I had competitions, but it was also in a work atmosphere. If we had been informed in advance about the World Cup stage, we would have prepared for it, as we have done before. We now live in different realities. There’s no point looking at my results and getting upset.

— Asian departure, long flight. How long did it take you to get there?

“I arrived Tuesday evening, I had to swim Thursday morning and I didn’t acclimatize well. I slept four hours a day. For Andrey (Minakov) the situation was better – there was a time zone change in the other direction during the flight. Now I flew in the opposite direction and also easily adapted – I slept 15 hours and I feel good, ”Godun told .

Russian swimmers are allowed to participate in international competitions individually and in neutral status.
