Russian swimmer Stepan Goncharov received neutral status to participate in international competitions under the auspices of the International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics), the press service of the organization reports.
Goncharov is 21 years old. In 2021, he won the Russian reserve competition in the 50 meter backstroke.
World Aquatics has developed criteria for the admission of Russians in neutral status to international competitions. They are based on the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee and include admission only to individual distances, a ban on communicating with the media during major competitions and a limit on the number of applications from neutral Russians per discipline.
