Daniel’s heart stopped in battle near New York

A member of the Ukrainian national rowing team died in the war with Russia Daniil Egorov.

Since 2016, the athlete has represented Ukraine on the international stage. Daniil began his career in the Zaporozhye region, after which he moved to Nikolaev.

In 2017, Egorov became a bronze medalist at the European Junior Championships. Two years later, Daniil became vice-champion of the U-23 European Championship.

With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, Daniil joined the ranks of the Azov regiment. Egorov was awarded the “Golden Cross” and “For the Preservation of Life” awards. At the age of 24, Daniil’s heart stopped on October 28 in a battle near New York (Bakhmut district).

In October, the Ukrainian sports community lost former Sumy and Victoria midfielder Dmitry Bogachov, handball player Roman Zaets and judoka Daniel Klass.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 980th day.
