The Ukrainian men’s handball team reshuffled the coaching staff

Zakhar Denisov became a player-coach

Head coach Ukrainian men’s handball team Vadim Brazhnik spoke about changes in the team before the matches selection for Euro 2026.

Zakhar Denisov, who is the captain of Motor, joined the coaching staff. He will be a player-coach and replaced Sergei Protsyuk as an assistant.

“There has been a change in the national team’s coaching staff: Sergei Protsyuk will be replaced by Zakhar Denisov. He will be a player-coach and will help me in various aspects. I think he’s doing it very well now in Motor. This is also a very good step in his career for Zakhar.”

On November 7, Ukraine will play away against the Netherlands, and on November 10 at home against the Faroe Islands. Each team in the group will play six matches (round robin – home and away), and the qualification for Euro 2026 will end in May next year.

The teams that take first and second places in the groups will receive tickets to the European Championship. The top four third-place teams also qualify.

The 2026 European Championship will be held in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. The host teams of the tournament, as well as the current champion France, automatically qualified for the final round.

Let us remind you that this spring the Ukrainian men’s team was unable to qualify for the 2025 World Cup. The blue-and-yellows lost twice to Estonia in the second round of the qualifying playoffs.
