Shovkovsky: We deliberately made a rotation, but we had to play 120 minutes

The Kiev team only snatched victory over Vorskla in overtime

Head coach Dynamo Alexander Shovkovsky commented on the difficult victory over Vorskla in the 1/8 finals match Ukrainian Cup 2024/25.

“We understood perfectly well that it would not be easy, given the circumstances that I talked about a lot after the match with Shakhtar, so I don’t want to repeat myself now. You saw that today our lineup was completely changed – we made a rotation taking into account the last match with Shakhtar and the next one. We did this deliberately and gave many players the opportunity to play.”

“It turned out that we had to play 120 minutes, the guys received an additional load. But the main thing is that we solved the problem and advanced to the next round.”

“I think it’s always important for a striker to score and feel those moments. Guerrero did a good job, clung to the ball – that’s exactly what we expect from him. In general, any of our players could shoot from the penalty spot.”

Vorskla and Dynamo scored a goal each in the first half, after which they were unable to find a winner in regular time. In overtime, Vladislav Vanat scored the winning goal.

The quarter-final matches will take place in April 2025. Bukovina, Alexandria and Polesie have already made it to the next round.
