Athletistic/ Others. Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Roman Teryushkov on his Telegram channel responded to the request of the Russian Fencing Federation sent to the International Fencing Federation (FIE).
“The Russian Fencing Federation appealed to the FIE to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments without a sign of sovereignty (flag, anthem). The FIE refused. It turns out that the FIE is more concerned about Russian sovereignty than the Russian Fencing Federation,” wrote Teryushkov, among others.
The MP added that the next similar request from one of the Russian sports federations should also include “no name”. “Let them play without a flag, without an anthem and without their names and surnames,” summarized Teryushkov.
