Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation Mikhail Degtiarev thanked the leaders of the All-Russian Swimming Federation, the Russian Synchronized Swimming Federation, the Russian Water Polo Federation and the Russian Diving Federation for the decision to unite into a single organization – the Russian Swimming Federation swimming.
On Thursday, a reporting and elections conference took place in Moscow. Dmitry Mazepin became president of the United Federation. The leaders of previous federations – Vladimir Salnikov, Olga Brusnikina, Evgeny Sharonov and Stanislav Druzhinin – became members of the presidium of the Russian Swimming Federation.
— In world swimming, there is a single federation which governs all aquatic disciplines: swimming, synchronized swimming, water polo and diving. We followed a similar path in Russia, uniting four federations into one. Despite difficult times and sanctions against some of our athletes, we continue to develop water sports and remain part of a large international sports family.
The conference at which this voluntary association took place was a success. The decision was taken unanimously. The new organization will be headed by Dmitry Arkadyevich Mazepin, a well-known philanthropist and entrepreneur, who for many years headed the supervisory board of the All-Russian Swimming Federation. We sincerely congratulate him on his election.
I would like to express my gratitude to all the presidents of the federations who have decided to unite, as well as to those who work locally in the region. Special thanks to four-time Olympic champion Vladimir Valerievich Salnikov, who became vice-president. His contribution to the development of swimming in Russia is enormous, he is known and respected abroad. One of his key tasks will be the international direction of the work.
The Ministry of Sports will pay special attention to aquatic sports, as swimming is one of the most popular sports, practiced by more than two million people nationwide.
Let me remind you that, on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, we are implementing the “Swimming for All” program. Already next year, the budget provides funds for the construction of 20 modular swimming pools, and this is just the beginning. I am convinced that thanks to our joint efforts and the support of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, the number of swimming fans and athletes will only increase, ”the correspondent reports, reporting Degtyarev’s words.
