Russian figure skater Alexandra Ignatova (Trusova) said she knew how much financial resources she needed to live.
Ignatova is a silver medalist at the Beijing Olympics and a bronze medalist at the 2021 World Championships. The last time the athlete competed in tournaments was in 2022, she missed the 2023/24 season completely. In September, Alexandra performed at the skating tests of the Russian national team in St. Petersburg.
“It seems to me that sport is not necessary to earn money. At least for me, it is. For me, the main thing in sport is to achieve results. And the money is a nice bonus.
When we were suspended, it took a toll financially. But there was no such thing as me not having enough for a new suit. When I played sports, I always had enough, because I lived with my parents and didn’t spend on anything except for some of my desires. The money just kept piling up. Now everything is different. I know how much I earn and how much I need,” Forbes quotes Ignatova.
Russian athletes have been banned from international competitions since 2022.
