Players and staff from a military aggressor country will receive British visas
Football players, representatives of the coaching staff and “officials” Belarusian national team will receive visas to the UK. Accordingly, nothing will prevent the match of the 5th round of the Nations League from taking place Northern Ireland — Belarus November 15 at Belfastat Windsor Park.
Previously there were reasonable concerns about this. The British authorities could not allow people from a country that was an accomplice of the military aggressor into their territory.
Northern Ireland national team head coach Michael O’Neill said he was pleased that the situation had been successfully resolved and called the possible transfer of the match outside his country “unfair”.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Republic of Belarus, an economic and political satellite of the Russian Federation, freely providing its neighbors with territory for attacks on our country, has been under British sanctions.
Despite the fact that Russian national teams and clubs have been completely excluded from any official competitions since the spring of 2022, teams from Belarus are allowed to participate in tournaments under the auspices of UEFA and FIFA – naturally, they play home matches outside their country.
Both teams compete in Group 3 of Division C. After four rounds, Northern Ireland leads the quartet with 7 points, which also includes Bulgaria and Luxembourg; Belarus ranks second with six points.
