Storm defeated Sokol in a shootout in the Ukrainian Hockey Championship

The tournament opened earlier with a duel between Kremenchuk and Dnepr

Odessa Storm beat in a shootout Falcon in Kyiv on the first day Ukrainian Championship 2024/25 hockey – 4:3.

The guests opened the scoring, Artem Portnoy converted the majority. The Kiev team responded with two goals from Maxim Zherebko in the first period. Portnoy scored a double already in the second 20 minutes. In the third period, the teams exchanged goals, with goals scored by Ilya Kryklya and Alexey Yanishevsky.

Overtime did not reveal the winner. In the shootout, the teams were unable to score for a long time. The winning shootout was scored by Daniil Skorokhod.

The Ukrainian Championship started on Friday with a match between Kremenchug and Dnepr (10:3). Let us remind you that the start of the championship was initially postponed from October 29 to October 31, but due to a prolonged air raid, the match was postponed another day.

Despite the fact that the championship has finally started, there is still a crisis in the leadership of Ukrainian hockey. Let us remind you that in September there was a split in the FHU. An event called the “General Congress of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation” took place in Kremenchug, at which Sergei Mazur was elected as the new president of the organization. However, this congress and its decisions did not receive official status – Gennady Zubko is still listed as the head of the FHU in the Ministry of Justice register.

On Thursday, the FHU, led by Zubko, issued a communique in which it stated that “the announced competitions do not have any official status.”

Mazur reported that five clubs submitted application forms to participate in the season: Sokol, Kremenchug, Dnepr, Storm and Kyiv Capitals. Trizub’s participation is in doubt.
