Director of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug Sofya Konukh told that the winter sports center has created the best conditions in the country, which is noted by all visitors.
Former President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation (FLGR) Elena Vyalbe told RIA Novosti that the team may in the future refuse to train in Khanty-Mansiysk due to the attitude of the organizers and the lack of cutting of ski slopes for the classic route, although the layer of snow and the width of the track allow this to be done.
— The unique snow preservation technology, used in Ugra for more than 10 years, and the experience accumulated by the organizing team allow the region to be the first in Russia to open a winter slope for training of athletes.
This season, a record amount of snow was collected – 40,000 cubic meters, which made it possible to prepare comfortable ski slopes with a length of 8 km – which is 3 km more than in the 2023/2024 season. Comfortable conditions were created for a larger number of athletes (more than 1,000), which is especially important for skiers.
When preparing the route, the organizers took into account the recommendations and wishes of the head coaches of Ugra and Russia in cross-country skiing and biathlon. The timing of preparation of the track, its length and height differences at the AV Filipenko Winter Sports Center objectively create the best conditions in the country, rated by all their users.
The strongest skiers and biathletes came to Ugra to undergo the training process – seven national teams of Russia, the national teams of Belarus and Kazakhstan, the national teams of Ugra and athletes from 13 regions. For the start of the training activities, taking into account the weather conditions, a classic ski slope was prepared with three of the four climbs available on the 8 km route.
The problem is that we haven’t yet had consistently low temperatures to prepare for the entire course. The track is ready, along the ridge it is completely ready for the full 8 km. Now the temperature is regularly low, this weekend it will be -5, and we will already prepare the whole route. Before that, we could not do it because of the unusually hot weather – in an area where there is an air vent, it was impossible to start a snowcat, we had to wait until everything froze,” Konukh told .
