Vasily’s fate remains unclear
Manager of the IBF and IBO Lightweight World Champion Vasily Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) Egis Klimas believes that the Ukrainian will make a decision about his future in the near future.
“Now Lomachenko has returned home and is resting after the fight. But time goes by. I think before the New Year or after the New Year he’ll have to make a decision about what he wants to do.”
The Ukrainian fought his last fight in May 2024. Vasily defeated Australian George Kambosos by technical knockout.
Lomachenko later negotiated with WBA lightweight belt holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis. The Ukrainian interrupted the discussion of a potential fight and decided to take a break from his career. Vasily was going to rest for the rest of the season and return to the ring in 2025, but information appeared in the media about the Ukrainian’s potential retirement.
Klimas himself previously stated that the Ukrainian wants to spend more time with his family and spoke about his current lack of motivation. Promoter Bob Arum believes Lomachenko will receive the support he needs if he wants to return to the ring.
President of the promotion company TopRank Todd DuBoeuf said that Vasily was too disappointed in the fight with Devin Haney, when he could not become the undisputed world lightweight champion, and decided to take a break.
