President of the Russian Fencing Federation (FFR) Ilgar Mammadov told that the deputy of the State Duma Roman Tereshkov in his attacks on Russian fencers, he relies on false information from Western media.
Earlier, Teryushkov, in his personal Telegram channel, said the International Fencing Federation (FIE) was more concerned about Russian sovereignty than the FFR, refusing to allow Russians to compete under a neutral flag. The text of the message was based on a July article from Inside the Games.
– I would like to wish MP Teryushkov to mind his own business, since he has already been elected deputy. It is not necessary to assert certain things if you have heard a ringtone, but you do not know where it comes from. The Russian Fencing Federation does not correspond to the FIE, it was a common stuff from a Western publication. And we are not asking to be admitted under neutral status. The FFR has filed a complaint in a civil court in Switzerland and is awaiting the trial, which has been postponed until the end of September, Mammadov told a correspondent.
– If they write on the fence that we renounce our citizenship, will MP Teryushkov also repeat this nonsense? Our great coaches in other sports have already called MP Teryushkov various “nice” words, now he wants to get the same from fencing? If you want to be a politician, then be a smart and wise politician, and don’t base your judgments on the guesswork of the pro-Western media,” Mammadov added.
