The Lviv team gained a powerful momentum, winning the championship for the third time in a row.
Head coach Karpat Vladislav Lupashko commented on his team’s big victory over Left Bank (3:0) in the 12th round Ukrainian Premier League.
“I think that before the goal was scored, we created chances; there were a lot of touches in the opponent’s penalty area, which is not typical for the opponents of the Left Bank. We remember that Shakhtar created very little; Polissya was lucky to draw with them. Zarya controversially won their match. Left Bank plays very defensively and tries to counterattack. They don’t need the ball, they play second and have the least control of the ball in the league. Because of this, they are one of the most dangerous teams in counterattacks. We created danger at the visitors’ goal, but could not score the ball.”
“The fact that we finished our journey in the Ukrainian Cup is bad. After all, this is important for fans and fans. First of all, we went through a difficult path due to the way the game days were distributed. In general, we have come out of this situation and I think that we have gained experience. If there were difficulties, they were quite significant. However, after this period we became more experienced in such moments, how to properly prepare ourselves for such a situation in the matches.”
Karpaty, having an unconditional advantage, could not open the outsider’s goal for a long time, but, starting from the 71st minute, they scored three unanswered goals. The heroes of the meeting were Evgeniy Podlepenets (goal + earned penalty) and Oleg Ocheretko (two goals scored).
The Lviv team gained momentum, winning three victories in a row (all with a clean sheet) in the championship and rising to fifth place in the standings. Lupashko was among the contenders for the award for the best UPL coach in October.
The Green-Whites will play their next match on November 9 away against one of the championship leaders – Alexandria.
