Another Ukrainian award following a brilliant season
Olympic champion in high jump Yaroslav Maguchikh recognized best athlete of the Balkans 2024.
For the second time in her career, the Ukrainian receives an award from the Association of Balkan Athletics Federations. In 2019, Yaroslava received the Rising Star prize.
Previously, Maguchikh was recognized as the best athlete in Europe in 2024. For two previous years, the Ukrainian was among the finalists for the award from European Athletics.
Let us remind you that Yaroslava is nominated for the title of the best athlete in the world from non-running disciplines in 2024. Her competitors for the prize from World Athletics were Valerie Allman (USA), Tara Davis-Woodhall (USA), Nina Kennedy (Australia) and Thiam Nafissatou (Belgium).
This year, Yaroslava won gold at the 2024 Olympic Games, and also became the European champion and won the Diamond League. In July, Maguchikh broke the world high jump record, which had stood since 1987 – Yaroslava cleared 2.10 m at the Diamond League stage in Paris.
