Spurs lost the first half, but after the break they swept the opponents off the field
Tottenham celebrated the victory over Aston Villa in the home match of the 10th round English Premier League – 4:1.
Unai Emery’s team played stronger in the first half and deservedly won it – Morgan Rogers scored after a corner.
The hosts equalized immediately after the break – Brennan Johnson scored after a pass from Heung-min Son. Spurs continued to press and were rewarded for their persistence in the final quarter of an hour with Dominic Solanke scoring twice four minutes apart.
The guests had enough time to save the match (including 10 stoppage minutes), but during the entire second half the Birmingham team did not make a single shot on target. Moreover, Tottenham managed to bring the score to a big one – the fourth goal was scored by fresh James Maddison.
The victory allowed Ange Potekoglu’s team to score 16 points and rise to 7th place. The Villans remained in fifth position.
Both teams will play their next matches in European competition. Aston Villa will face Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday, while Spurs will take on Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday.
