Track and field athlete Nageye became the first European in the 21st century to win the New York Marathon.

Abdi Nageie, representing the Netherlands, won the New York marathon.

He ran a distance of 42 kilometers and 195 meters with a result of 2 hours 7 minutes and 39 seconds.

Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya won the women’s competition. His time was 2 hours 24 minutes and 35 seconds.

Nageye is the first European of the 21st century to win the New York marathon. The 35-year-old is from Somalia, but represents the Netherlands.
