Iraola: Zabarny has especially improved his skills in making quick decisions while handling the ball

The coach is pleased with the Ukrainian’s performance

Coach Bournemouth Andoni Iraola spoke about working with the Ukrainian defender Ilya Zabarny and highlighted the centre-back’s progress.

“Sometimes I feel unfair to others, but it’s difficult. Marcos Senesi and Ilya Zabarny put me in a very difficult position because it is difficult for me to give playing minutes to other players.”

“They do well in possession. I think Zaba has especially improved his ability to make quick decisions while handling the ball. And they play very solidly defensively, they do a great job of it.”

“I would say they also seek a certain amount of leadership, in the sense that they care not only about their position, but about the structure as a whole. And I’m very pleased with them.”

The Ukrainian has been an indispensable performer in Iraola’s team for the second season. Following the results of the 2023/24 campaign, Ilya was recognized as Bournemouth’s best footballer and was also nominated for the Premier League’s symbolic team. In July, Zabarny extended his contract with the club until the summer of 2029.

This season, the 22-year-old center back played without substitution in all 10 matches in the Premier League, including in the victorious matches against Arsenal (2:0) and Manchester City (2:1).

The Cherries are in 10th place in the Premier League. On November 9, Bournemouth will play against Brentford, and Zabarny will be able to play a match against his compatriot Yegor Yarmolyuk.
