“At the first training session after my appointment there were only ten or twelve players. The first question is always: “How are you?” Most of them respond: “Okay, thanks.” You need to look into their eyes to find out the truth and ask: “How are you really doing? What do you need? What are your next steps? My job is to get the best out of everyone. And one of the advantages is that I already know many of them,” current Young Boys coach Joël Magnin shared his impressions. At that time, there were 13 players in the team hospital, including team captain Loris Benito. Now the situation has improved a little, but it still remains difficult.
There are eight players on sick leave, and three 18-year-olds and one 19-year-old footballer, who have not played a single match for the first team, were preparing for the match with Shakhtar. The first three are defenders: Lorin Jetzer, Rhodri Smith and Quito Termonzi, the last is midfielder Jashar Dema. The team also has three goalkeepers on its roster. For comparison, Shakhtar coach Marino Pusic took 27 players to the match with Young Boys, including four goalkeepers.
The upcoming match is the third head-to-head match between Shakhtar and Young Boys. In the previous two, the teams exchanged home victories, but the entire duel ended in favor of the Young Boys. And in general, Ukrainian clubs have so far had no luck in their confrontations with the Swiss team in the Champions League.
