Figure skater Alena Kostornaya pair skating with her husband Georgy Kounitsa reported that the duo put their careers on hiatus for two seasons.
In September, Kostornaya announced that she would miss a number of tournaments due to a long recovery process from illness.
— We are missing two seasons, after which we plan to return. These are really not empty words, we want to skate and are not retiring. Why two seasons? We have to mind some of our own business,” Kostornaya said, as quoted by RIA Novosti Sport.
Kostornaya and Kunitsa are 21 years old. Last season, they took ninth place at the Russian Pair Skating Championships. Alena is the 2020 European singles skating champion; she has competed as a pair since 2023.
