Leonova on Kostornaya’s decision to take a break: “Time will tell, but for now I doubt her return”

Silver medalist at the World Figure Skating Championships Alena Leonova told that it was still difficult for him to believe in the return of the European champion Alena Kostornaya after a career break.

Figure skater Alena Kostornaya, who practices pair skating with her husband Georgy Kunitsa, told RIA Novosti that their duo put their careers on hold for two seasons.

— Do you believe in a possible career restart after a two-season break?

– This is unlikely, in very rare cases it can be done. If a person pauses, that already says something. Time will tell, but for now I doubt there will be a comeback. Now also, when there was a transition to pairs, there was no particular breakthrough, and even I would say that they did not realize their full potential initially. In principle, I was not surprised (by their decision): they did not go skating, that was already a warning signal.

— Two versions are put forward by supporters: either personal reasons, or a change of sporting citizenship.

– Yes, there is something to think about. Or maybe both. You can do everything at once and then go out and win against everyone. That would be cool,” Leonova told .
