Alexander scored Shakhtar’s first goal in the current Champions League
Shakhtar Donetsk winger Alexander Zubkov commented on the strong-willed victory over Young Boys (2:1) in the fourth round of the Champions League.
“The most important thing is that we got three important points. I hope this will give more confidence to the team. I also think that in the first half there were enough scoring chances where we could have scored, and in the second half, of course, we got a little tired at the end. But I think we had more scoring chances and that’s why it’s a well-deserved victory for us.”
“Today the main thing is victory, the first victory in the Champions League. I hope it will give the team confidence and we will move on. It’s too early to talk about any chances now: we still need to see how other teams will play. We’ll see after this round what position we take, but of course we always have the goal of winning the Champions League and we will do it as best we can.”
Zubkov scored Shakhtar’s first goal in the 2024/25 Champions League. The Gornyakov player distinguished himself in the first half of the match with Young Boys: Alexander responded to Georgy Sudakov’s cross. The winger equalized after Castriot Imeri scored for the Swiss.
After four rounds, Marino Pusic’s team has four scoring points and is in 28th position. On November 27, the Miners will hold an away meeting with PSV.
