Russian figure skater Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva who practices ice dancing with Egor Bazin, said in his column on that the attitude towards this area of figure skating has recently seriously changed.
Khudaiberdieva and Bazin are Russian champions in 2023.
“I am glad that today parents and coaches understand: ice dancing is very difficult, honorable and beautiful. In the early 2010s, taking up dancing was seen as a punishment and an initiation into suckers. It was believed that there was no difficulty in this type of figure skating and only losers went. This is part of the reason why, about ten years ago, there was a serious shortage of boys. The fight for partners and even “resales” coaching flourished with great success. Now it happens much less often,” Khudaiberdieva wrote.
