Former midfielder of Illichivets and Vorskla – about the Dynamo – Ferencvaros match in the Europa League
Dynamo continues its losing streak in the Europa League group stage. In the fourth round wards of Alexander Shovkovsky in a nominally home match in Hamburg were defeated by the Hungarian Ferencvaros – 0:4. All the best moments match Dynamo Kyiv – Ferencvarosi we discussed with the famous former football player of Poltava Vorskla and Mariupol Illichivets – Ivan Krivosheenko.
— The majority of Ukrainian fans assumed that it would be easiest for Dynamo players to score points in home matches of the Europa League with Ferencvaros, Czech Victoria and Riga Russian Football Federation. Were you of the same opinion?
— I thought that if we didn’t beat Ferencvarosi in the Europa League, then there was nothing to do in European competitions. Yes, in recent years Ferencváros has been the permanent champion of Hungary, but the level of football in the neighboring country is not the highest. Having watched the Dynamo – Ferencvaros match, I can say that such a team could and should have been beaten.
— Before the game, many experts said that the Ukrainian championship is now more important for Dynamo, where they have a difficult match with Polesie on Sunday. Hence the fact that in the duel with the Hungarian champion, not the entire core of the Kyiv club will take to the field…
– I also expected such a development of events. It seems to me that now the domestic championship is a priority for the running blues. But Shovkovsky decided to throw his entire base into battle. Although, the Kyivans have the opportunity to rotate, fortunately the bench allows this.
— In the last match, everything was decided in the 17th minute of the match, when Dubinchak played roughly against his opponent and saw a red card in front of him?
— Dubinchak, based on what I saw, entered the field very aggressive, wound up, it would be even more correct to say. Dynamo’s left back had a collision with a Hungarian player a little earlier. Maybe he told him something and that’s why such an episode happened at the 17th minute. Dubinchak made a childish mistake, because the opponent no longer controlled the ball, which was outside the football field. His foul… Perhaps our player was a little overtuned, realizing the importance of this game. At that very moment, the Kiev team’s plan for this match collapsed. There were 73 minutes left to play. Of course, this was a very serious mistake by Vladislav and he now understands it.

— Do you understand why the head coach of Dynamo soon replaced Buyalsky, and not, for example, Kabaev or Voloshin?
— Here, I think Shovkovsky did everything right. Our guys tried to play through the flanks in the first half, and we know about the ability to quickly escape from their opponents Kabaev and Voloshin. And let’s remember that in the first half our players had two good opportunities to open the scoring in this match.
— Both teams went into the break with a tied score. Why did everything collapse for Dynamo in the second half?
— It seems to me that the visiting head coach Pascal Jansen made adjustments to his team’s play during the break. He realized what needed to change to turn the game around. And Alexander Shovkovsky did not make a single substitution, although his players made a lot of effort in the first half, playing an energy-consuming match. In a good way, it was necessary to release two fresh players for the second half. Here, Alexander Vladimirovich did not have enough experience.
— In such difficult matches, the role of team leaders is great. How did Brazhko and Shaparenko perform?
— Nikolay was good in the first half, but in the second half he had a lot of chances in the center of the field. As for Brazhko, he didn’t play a great match, but he didn’t fail either. It was difficult for him to contain the attacks of the Hungarian team. As for another leader of Dynamo – Andrei Yarmolenko, we would probably see him on the field if two teams played in equal compositions. And, playing in the minority, this was already an unnecessary option.
— At what score did you understand that Dynamo would lose to Ferencvaros?
— When the score was 0:2, everything became clear to me. Our team hasn’t scored a single goal in three rounds, why could anything have changed?
— We look at the Europa League standings and see Dynamo in last, 36th place, with a depressing goal difference of 0:10. For example, the Latvian Russian Federation has 2 points to its credit, having scored 4 goals…
— This result is not accidental. Our team’s defense is poor. Young Mikhavko and Bilovar are unstable, and they lack experience. I know how difficult it is for the guys to get to European Cup games for 18 hours. In the meantime, it seems to me that the people of Kiev will devote all their strength to the UPL, where they are fighting for the championship. Maybe in a year the war will end, and our teams will play in their hometowns and then it will be much easier. I believe that in the current difficult situation, our fans need to support Shakhtar and Dynamo, those clubs that play in European competition.
— Do you have any complaints against Alexander Shovkovsky? He’s been the team’s head coach for a year now, hasn’t he?
“I think that any coach should be given two or three years to work quietly. The team is in the lead in the Ukrainian Championship, although there are difficulties. I would give Shovkovsky time, because if someone changes him, then, globally, nothing will change. We hope for Dynamo Kyiv’s progress in the near future.
