Vorskla in Odessa interrupted a 10-match winless streak
Head coach Vorskly Yuri Maximov commented on the team’s first victory after his return to the Poltava club.
“We are fighting for survival. Today was a game for six points. We were unlucky with Veres and Kolos, but today the luck returned. “I am very grateful to the guys for their efforts and for the situation in the standings.”
“I was afraid that we would concede in the last minutes. When you lead, the team sits in their half of the field and wants to keep the score – that’s what I was most afraid of,” the coach noted.
The Poltava team snatched an away victory from Chernomorets (1:0) in the opening match of the 13th round of the Ukrainian Premier League. The only goal was scored by substitute Denis Ndukwe, who scored for the first time for the Vorskla first team.
Let us remind you that on October 24, Maksimov officially returned to the position of head coach of the Poltava team, which he previously headed from 2019 to 2022. Under him, Vorskla in the UPL first played a productive draw with Veres on the road (2:2), after which they lost minimally at home to Kolos (0:1).
Today the Poltava team broke their 10-match streak without a win in all tournaments. Maksimov’s team scored 13 points and rose to 10th place in the UPL. In the next round, Vorskla will host LNZ on November 23.
