“It can be seen as a signal for the leaders of sport” – Koloskov on McLaren comments

Honorary President of the RFU Vyacheslav Koloskov commented on the words Richard McLaren on the admission of Russian athletes to international tournaments.

Earlier, the head of the independent World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) commission investigating the 2014 Olympics doping scandal case, McLaren, in an interview with Sportschau, called for the admission Russian athletes at international competitions.

– I would not generalize and say that the attitude towards Russia should change radically. So far, there are no prerequisites for this, and McLaren’s statement is nothing more than an isolated case, although very important for us. This can be seen as a signal for sports leaders who come up with new sanctions and expel national athletes.

Moreover, his words seemed timely, because just recently the head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, said that he still does not recommend inviting Russians. We will consider this as the beginning of a review of policy regarding our country, quotes RT Koloskov.

In 2016, McLaren wrote a report in which he stated that in Russia there was a state system that manipulated doping samples and covered up athletes. In 2017, Vitaly Smirnov, who headed the Independent Public Anti-Doping Commission, said McLaren had dropped allegations of state support for Russian doping.
