“It’s good that such a person supported our athletes. Maybe his opinion will somehow affect our return to the world stage. I think the West has started to understand that the competitions without Russian athletes are uninteresting and inferior,” Tarasova said.
On August 14, Richard McLaren, in an interview with sportschau.de, said that the withdrawal of Russians from participation in international tournaments due to the political situation in Ukraine was unfair. A few years ago, McLaren led the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) commission investigating the doping scandal at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
