The legendary British cyclist will make his final appearance at the Singapore Criterium on November 10

Legendary British cyclist Mark Cavendish officially announced his retirement from his professional racing career.

“Sunday will be the last race of my professional cycling career. I have been lucky enough to do what I love for almost 20 years and can now say that I have achieved everything I could on a bike. Cycling has given me so much and I love the sport, I’ve always wanted to change it and now I’m ready to see what the next chapter has in store for me. Thank you everyone for all the support, always,” the athlete wrote on social networks.

Manx Missile will take part in the Tour de France Criterium exhibition event in Singapore on November 9th and 10th. The organizers also announced the participation in the event of the legendary Great Loop champions Chris Froome, Vincenzo Nibali, and four-time La Vuelta winner Primoz Roglic. Sunday’s exhibition race will be the last of the outstanding sprinter’s career.

Cavendish, 39, has 165 professional road cycling wins. Among them is the 2011 world champion title, victory at the Milan-San Remo monument, victories at the stages of all three grand tours. His track record includes two jerseys as the best sprinter in the Tour de France.

Also, “Manx Missile” is a three-time world champion on the track in the Madison discipline. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Cavendish won a silver medal in the omnium.

In 2024, Mark broke the record of the legendary Eddy Merckx for the number of stage victories in the Tour de France. The Briton became the sole leader in this indicator with 35 victories.

Until recently, the sprinter did not announce plans for the next season. It was reported that Cavendish is considering several options for his future activities, including an administrative or representative position in his current Astana Qazaqstan Team.
