Sporting announced the appointment Joao Pereira for the post of head coach.

Previously, the 40-year-old specialist worked as an assistant to Ruben Amorim, who left Sporting to head Manchester United.

During his playing career, Joao Pereira played for Benfica, Braga, Trabzonspor, Valencia, and in 2021 he ended his playing career as a Sporting football player. At the same time, he began his coaching career at the Lisbon club, and in 2023, Joao Pereira began working as Amorim’s assistant.

Sporting is a confident leader in the Portuguese championship – it won all the starting 11 rounds, now having 33 points in its asset. In the Champions League, the team is in second place in the overall standings, and in the last round the Lisbon team defeated Manchester City at home (4:1).

Sporting will play his debut match with Joao Pereira as head coach on November 22 in the Portuguese Cup against Amarante.
