The blue-and-whites won only four matches in regular time in all tournaments, including against Dynamo in the Europa League
Hoffenheim officially announced his separation from his head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo. Together with him, his assistant also resigned. Michael Kammermeier.
The club made this decision as a reaction to the “current sporting situation.” As TSG sporting director Andreas Schicker admitted, the decision “did not come easily.”
“Not only do we have too few points in the Bundesliga – nine points after ten games – but the lack of consistency in our performances this season also influenced our decision,” the functionary explained.
Frank Fröling and Benjamin Hübner will temporarily lead the team’s training (at least during the international break).
Matarazzo is an American, a native of New Jersey. He will turn 47 at the end of November. He spent most of his football career in Germany (in the lower divisions), and gained his first coaching experience in the structure of Nuremberg. At the end of the 2010s, Matarazzo worked in Hoffenheim as an assistant to Julian Nagelsmann, and from December 2019 to October 2022 he independently managed Stuttgart.
Hoffa took over as coach in February 2023 and saved the team from relegation, after which he led it to the Europa League the following season. However, this season things have not gone well: only four wins in 16 matches in all tournaments in regular time (another one on penalties in the Cup). The only victory of the Matarazzo team in the LE happened on October 3 in the match of the second round of the LE against Dynamo Kyiv (2:0).
In the Bundesliga, the Blue and Whites occupy 15th place, only one point ahead of St. Pauli, who are in the transition zone. Matarazzo’s team lost five out of ten matches and did not score in the last three games. In the next round, Hoffe will host Leipzig on November 23.
