Spurs coach Ange Postecoglou calls on the midfielder to accept punishment from the English FA
Tottenham expects the midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur will receive a long suspension for a racist “joke” towards his teammate Son Heung-mina.
The incident remains under investigation by the English Football Association. The exact punishment is still unknown, but Spurs are already prepared for the midfielder to inevitably miss a long period. Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou urged the player to accept the FA’s decision.
Let us remember that the incident happened back in June, when Rodrigo participated in a talk show on Uruguayan television. Speaking about the Korean striker’s T-shirt, Bentancur joked that he could bring the T-shirt of Son’s cousin, who “looks the same” as him. The Uruguayan subsequently apologized via social networks, calling the incident “a very bad joke.”
The association accuses Bentancur of violating rule E3 – “Inappropriate conduct in connection with media interviews.” The Uruguayan faces a suspension of 6 to 12 matches.
Bentancur, 27, has made 15 appearances for the club in all competitions this season. Bentancur scored one goal and gave one assist.
Tottenham is in 10th place in the Premier League. Spurs next play Manchester City on November 23.
