Golden Boot winner loses first match in professional tennis

Diego Forlan did not beat the Bolivians.

The legend of the national team of Uruguay and European football Diego Forlán made his debut as a professional tennis player in the ATP Challenger Tour tournament

The 45-year-old former football player, paired with Argentinean Federico Coria, received a Wild Card for the Uruguay Open 2024 tournament, held in Uruguay’s capital, Montevideo.

In the first round, Forlan and Coria met Bolivian tennis players Federico Ceballos and Boris Arias. The match lasted less than an hour and Forlan and his partner lost without a chance, winning only three game – 1:6, 2:6.

Once, the Uruguayan-Argentine duo reached a break point on the opponent’s serve, but failed to convert it.

Let’s remember that Forlan at one time was twice the top scorer of the European championships, for which he received the golden boot[/link_local]]. In 2010, he became the best player in the World Cup.
