Gvozdyk: I think this will be a difficult fight for Ramirez, but I’m betting on him to win on points

The Ukrainian was Gilberto Ramirez’s sparring partner before his fight with Chris Billyam-Smith

Former world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk (20-2, 16 KO) shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight between the WBA cruiserweight belt holder Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (46-1, 30 KO) and WBO champion Chris Billyam-Smith (20-1, 13 KOs).

“I was Zurdo’s main partner. Slava Shabransky helped with me in Los Angeles, and as far as I know, before I joined the camp, there were other guys. All the time it was free sparring, where I did what was comfortable for me, only the last easy sparring, this Monday I tried to work closer to the British style.”

“Saudi Arabia is interesting. They do everything on an Arab scale, as they say “In the rich way.” I think this will be a tough fight for Zurdo, but I’m betting on him to win on points. “He has all the tools to win, the main thing is not to allow Billyam-Smith to impose power boxing.”

Gvozdyk was “Zurdo” Ramirez’s sparring partner before his fight with Billyam-Smith. The fight itself will take place on November 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Let us remind you that Gvozdyk expected to fight in September with a not too difficult opponent in order to get back into rhythm. Next, the Ukrainian wanted to take part in the championship match in December.

Gvozdyk suffered the second defeat of his career in June, losing to David Benavidez in a fight for the vacant WBC interim title. In the fight, which took place in Las Vegas at the Grand Garden Arena, the American won by unanimous decision.

Earlier, in 2020, the Ukrainian ended his career, but then decided to return to professional boxing. From 2016 to 2019, he held the WBC light heavyweight title. In 2012, Alexander became the bronze medalist of the Olympics.
