Sabada and Astakhov – on training with Boykova and Kozlovsky: “It’s a big plus that there are guys whose level you can aim for”

Figure skaters Olga Sabada and Pavel Astakhov, who took third place at the Russian Junior Grand Prix stage in Moscow, said that training with Alexandra Boykova And Dmitri Kozlovsky motivate them.

Sabada and Astakhov became third in pair skating at the Russian Junior Grand Prix in Moscow with a score of 179.24 points. The first are Polina Shesheleva and Egor Karnaukhov (190.26), the second are Zoya Kovyazina and Artemy Mokhov (180.93).

– This is the beginning of your relationship. How do you judge this start?

Sabada: We are incredibly happy to have won this award. There is something to work on, something to strive for next.

Astakhov: It’s a nice bonus that we took a place on the podium. Moving on, we hope to show St. Petersburg that we have improved.

— Can you tell us in more detail, how long have you been skating together? How did you get together as a couple?

Sabada: We paired up in August, our coaches assigned it to us. Due to the large number of skates in training, it was easier in competition.

Astakhov: The big plus is that we did a lot of training on skates. This is a colossal job not only from us, but from the entire coaching staff, not only ice coaches, but also choreographers and directors. I agree that these competitions were quite easy.

— Pavel, last season you played with another partner. How quickly did you find mutual understanding?

Astakhov: Quite quickly. Olya is a very competent athlete, she learns the elements quite quickly, she is well prepared.

— Olya, is this your first experience in pair skating or have you already had partners?

Sabada: This is my first experience. Before that, I only had one partner with whom we learned elements in pairs.

– Olya, do you like being together?

Sabada: I really like it. I like paired items, especially outliers. There’s support from your partner, it’s much easier to perform mentally because you’re both on the ice.

— All the couples in your group are on the pedestal. Does competition make you progress?

Astakhov: That’s a big plus, because we’re on good terms with all the guys. We see everyone in training, we go hand in hand, we evolve. We also train on the ice with guys like Alexandra Boykova and Dmitry Kozlovsky, who are very interesting to watch, who are growing and developing as well. It’s a big plus that there are guys like that that you can watch and fight for.

Sabada: This encourages us to do better and more beautifully. I admire Alexandra Boykova and Dmitry Kozlovsky, they make a good couple,” the correspondent reports the skaters’ words.
