Olympic alpine skiing champion Lindsey Vonn resumes career at age 40

American athlete won gold at the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver

Olympic champion in alpine skiing Lindsey Vonn resumed her career at the age of 40.

The American retired from playing in February 2019, but announced her return after successful knee surgery.

In a July interview, she admitted that retiring was “more difficult than I expected” and “nothing can fill the hole in ski racing.”

Vonn won Olympic gold in the downhill at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, where she also took bronze in the super-G. In 2018, she won another bronze in the downhill in Pyeongchang.

Lindsey Vonn made her World Cup debut at the age of 16 in 2000 and has won 20 World Cup titles (including four overall Crystal Globes) and eight World Championship medals, 137 World Cup podiums and 82 World Cup victories.
