Lopata: I didn’t expect a call to the Ukrainian national team

The 19-year-old athlete received an invitation, but was unable to attend due to a hand injury

Tennis player Anastasia Lopata commented on her debut challenge in Ukrainian national team. The Ukrainian also told what allowed her to achieve success recently and win her first trophy.

“I was very surprised, of course. I didn’t expect this. It’s a pleasure to represent Ukraine, I’ve never done this before.”

“I think it’s more about the mental approach. Just make yourself believe that you can throw a good serve at 30-40 or even. You have to believe that you can execute the shot at the right time.”

“I’m trying to remember how I got to win the tournament. What have I done to be where I am? I just try not to stop there. I always expect myself to do the best I can.”

At the end of October, 19-year-old Anastasia won her first trophy at the professional level, winning the ITF tournament in Hilton Head, America. Lopata received a call to replace Marta Kostyuk for the match with Austria in the playoffs of the Billie Jean King Cup. However, the Ukrainian broke her arm before preparing for the fight and will not compete against the Austrian team.

Let us remind you that Lesya Tsurenko, Katarina Zavatskaya, Anastasia Soboleva and Nadezhda Kichenok will play for the blue-yellows. The captain of the Ukrainian team is Ilya Marchenko.

The matches will take place on the hard surface of The Courts in McKinney, Texas, USA. The confrontation between Ukraine and Austria will take place on November 16 and 17. The winner of this meeting will qualify to compete in the 2025 World Finals qualification.
