Athletistic/ Others. The President of the Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation, Irina Viner, has reacted to the statement by Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren, author of a report on the results of an investigation into anti-doping rule violations in Russian sports.
Among other things, McLaren, in his last interview for Sportschau, recalled that athletes should not become hostages of political wars.
Additionally, McLaren stressed that Russian athletes should be allowed to return to the international competitive stage.
– Such a statement is nice, whether it affects something or not – I do not know, after all, now McLaren does not hold office, he is on well-deserved rest, and when he was in power he spoke very hard on Russian sports. The associations in his statement are correct. Athletes are out of politics, they should perform at international competitions, – said Viner, whose words are quoted by the agency “RIA News“.
