All judges gave preference to the Mexican after 12 rounds
Champion W.B.A. in the first heavyweight Gilberto Ramirez (47-1, 30 KO) defeated Chris Billam-Smith (20-2, 13 KOs) and added to his resume WBO beltwhich was owned by a Briton.
The fight took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia at The Venue arena. Ramirez controlled the fight in the first half, Billam-Smith tried to seize the initiative in subsequent rounds. Chris received a cut, which reopened in the 11th three-minute period.
As a result, the fight lasted all 12 rounds. The judges gave the victory to Ramirez by unanimous decision – 116:112, 116:112 and 116:113.
Ramirez defended the WBA title, which he won in his previous fight with Arsen Gulamiryan in March. Billam-Smith suffered the second defeat of his career. In his previous fight, Chris took revenge over his early opponent Richard Riakpore in June.
