Gilberto unified WBA and WBO cruiserweight titles
WBA and WBO cruiserweight title holder Gilberto Ramirez (47-1, 30 KOs) expressed a desire to eventually rise to the heavyweight division and fight the WBC, IBO, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Alexander Usik (22-0, 14 KOs).
“If Usyk wants to, I’m more than ready and happy to fight him. Because he is one of my idols and I want to meet him too. What he does in boxing is great.”
“Everyone saw that I was a strong person and I was growing. I also want to become the heavyweight champion, and anything is possible. Look at Usyk, what he did. He’s no bigger than me and I think I can do it too.”
Ramirez defeated Chris Billam-Smith via unanimous decision on Sunday. The Mexican defended his WBA title and won the WBO belt, which was held by the Briton.
Usik was the undisputed world champion in the first heavyweight division in 2018-2019. The Ukrainian rose to the heavyweight division, where he also collected all the belts after defeating Tyson Fury in May 2024.
