Figure skater Kondratyuk: “I know that when I skate well, the guys will come and congratulate me. It’s nicer than scandals.”

Figure skater Mark Kondratyuk said he was more comfortable maintaining friendly relations with his rivals.

On Sunday, Kondratyuk won men’s bronze at the fourth stage of the Russian Figure Skating Grand Prix in Moscow, scoring 289.11 points in the two-program total. Evgeniy Semenenko won (301.60), Grigory Fedorov took silver (301.04).

– Today the rental was under a certain banner of struggle. I’m very happy that I didn’t give up, that I continued to fight and that I skated well in the second half. I was surprised the stunt didn’t work. The second time I did a triple axel-triple axel stunt, it was quite unexpected that I fell.

— How would you summarize the first part of the season?

— A more positive addition to the collection. On average, everything is going pretty well, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The short was better, but in the free skate there were mistakes that didn’t exist.

I knew Grisha had scored 300 points. I wasn’t surprised, I saw how he skated. I thought it would be around 200 points [в произвольной программе]. It was a phenomenal performance, it was awesome. I’m very happy for him.

—Didn’t that knock you down or charge you?

– Neither. I was happy for him for a while. I thought I had to work so we could rejoice together later.

There probably isn’t much to be happy about. I’m glad I pulled myself together after the crash and made it through the second half. This decided the outcome of my place. Otherwise, as my coach likes to say, there is still a lot of work to do.

— Which is better: when you are friends with your rivals or in a tougher confrontation?

— I would like to wish Dana Samsonov good health, we missed him today. I cannot guarantee which of these options is most interesting to the viewer, as I do not know the answer to this question. I feel more comfortable when the atmosphere is friendly. I know that when I skate well, the guys come to congratulate me. If I don’t skate very well, I will congratulate the others. And it will be sincere: in one way or the other. It’s better than scandals. Maybe something else is more interesting for the viewer, that’s not for me to decide.

— What is your mood for the Russian Championship?

– As always, combative. Work, try. Whatever happens,” the correspondent reports Kondratyuk’s words.
