Russian Adélia Petrossian is the best figure skater in the world and has all the qualities to win the Olympic Games, says 2012 World Championships silver medalist Alena Leonova .
On Sunday, Petrosyan won the women’s competition at the fourth stage of the Russian Grand Prix in Moscow, scoring 251.57 points in the two-program total. Daria Sadkova won silver (224.93), bronze went to Ksenia Gushchina (212.79).
— Is Adelia Petrosyan the best figure skater in the world? As the current Grand Prix stage progresses, this is even more common in the media than previously heard. Or do you consider comparing matches inappropriate?
“What they say about her is absolutely true. There is no doubt. A very cool figure skater. The way she’s changed since last season is shocking, to use young people’s slang. She has grown into a beautiful girl and as an athlete she is endowed with all the qualities that an Olympic champion should have. I really like his skating style and his self-criticism. But we all perfectly understand how well it works… Not everyone is able to withstand such loads.
— How do you evaluate the men’s tournament?
— It’s at the level of foreign men’s skating. Everything is quite tight and everyone can win from the last warm-up. A lot of quadruple jumps, everything was on the limit. I am completely shocked by this. In my day a person would go out with two quads, do them consistently and win, but now five quads in a program is a huge load, and the way our guys deal with it is cool the very fact that they take this risk; deserves great respect.
— There is an opinion that our men’s skating is emerging from the shadow of women’s skating and regaining public interest.
– Accept. Men’s skating has become more spectacular, with such a set of quadruples, given that they are performed not by one person, but by dozens. I’m sure every viewer has their own favorites. And such attention is very good.
