Figure skater Pogorilaya on her relationships with rivals: “We argued on the ice, but off the ice we laughed and talked”

Medalist at the World Figure Skating Championships Anna Nevskaya (Pogorilaya) said she was on good terms with many skaters outside of competition.

— We were really friends, competing with each other. Of course, we argued on the ice, but off the ice we laughed, talked, corresponded, that is, we had a completely normal relationship.

Obviously everyone is different, but personally it hasn’t been difficult for me in this regard. With the same Zhenya (Medvedeva), we trained on the same ice rink, we saw each other all the time, perhaps that is why we did not feel any rivalry outside of competitions. I was on excellent terms with Yulia Lipnitskaya. At the Junior World Championships in Milan, we even walked around the city together. Gnawing an opponent’s throat overboard, damaging someone’s skates, I don’t remember anything like that in our time,” RT quoted Pogorilaya as saying.

Pogorilaya, 25, is a bronze medalist at the World Championships (2016), silver and twice bronze at the European Championships.
