Swimmer Andrei Minakov will miss November’s Russian Championships in St. Petersburg, but will retain the chance to qualify in absentia for December’s World Short Course Swimming Championships in Budapest, the Russian Federation’s first vice-president told swimming, Vladimir Salnikov.
The Russian Short Course Swimming Championship begins on November 21. Salnikov announced that the start would become an internal qualifying event for Russian swimmers. According to the rules of neutral status, only one Russian athlete can start a distance at the Short Course World Championships, which will be held in December in Budapest.
“Minakov will miss the Russian Championship, but the result he showed at the World Cup will be taken into account in the selection for the World Cup,” Salnikov told .
Minakov, in neutral status during the World Cup in Singapore, fulfilled the qualification requirements for the World Championships in Budapest.
