Chupkov did not participate in major competitions in Russia last season or this season. In an interview with , the 27-year-old swimmer announced his retirement.

— Is it difficult to see that the guys are not playing at international level? Why do critics take a lot out of the Olympics?

—And your decision to end your career is like leaving professional sport, but staying in swimming?

– I will be happy if I remain the right person. I have a lot of experience in the entertainment industry, as well as the training process. I have always had good relations with the federation. If someone needs help, support, I will try to provide it, to the extent of my strengths and my job, ”Chupkov told .

Chupkov specializes in breaststroke swimming. Over a distance of 200 meters at Rio de Janeiro 2016, he won an Olympic bronze medal.
