The Ukrainian expressed outrage at the lack of postponement of her first round match at the WTA 125 tournament in Charleston
Ukrainian tennis player Katarina Zavatskaya on your page in Instagram criticized Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). It’s all because of the lack of rescheduling of her first round match at the tournament WTA 125 V Charleston.
“I played 8 sets in 2 days on hard court in the gym. This week I have the WTA 125 tournament in Charleston, which takes place immediately after the showdown in Dallas. This is the only tournament on this continent and it takes place on open ground. I asked that my first match be scheduled for Wednesday as an exception, since I finished playing for the national team only on Sunday.”
“I emailed asking to start on Wednesday due to: change of surface, change from indoor to outdoor court, large amount of court time, injuries/soreness. The response was: “Hi Katarina. Thank you for your letter. I completely understand and can’t promise anything, but I will do my best to get your match on Tuesday. We don’t have 1st round matches on Wednesday. All the best and see you soon.”
“So it was even possible that I could play on Monday? I was still on the plane on Monday… Why can’t I get a clear answer? On Monday evening I decided to find out if I could play on Tuesday at least with the last launch. The answer was: “We wanted to publish the schedule and your match was the first launch! Let’s see what I can do…”
“How can you even think of putting me in the first start after the week I had? Is it you who care so much about the players? Or are you worried about killing players mentally and physically? I just can’t keep quiet about this shit anymore. Okay, even if it’s impossible to put me in the middle: just explain to me, give me the real reasons? Rules…? WTA rules…? This is not serious at all.”
“Today I lost. I couldn’t compete and show the audience a good game of tennis or wrestling. It was just a shame for me to play at this level. I couldn’t show much on the court because of these circumstances! One more day (of rest) would make a difference to me. I could lose, but I could play good tennis and show the children that this is a good game, a good sport. I thought that’s what we’re here for too.”
At the WTA 125 tournament in Charleston, Katarina Zavatskaya suffered a crushing defeat from “neutral” Ekaterina Makarova (0:6, 1:6).
Let us remind you that on the night of November 18, Katarina Zavatskaya played a key role in the victory of the Ukrainian national team over Austria in the playoffs of the Billie Jean King Cup. First, she won in singles against Yulia Graber, after which, together with Nadezhda Kichenok, she triumphed in doubles, thereby bringing victory to Ukraine in the match with a score of 3:2.
