“There is a general decline in pairs skating. Previously, Russian couples were the engine of progress” – figure skater Bazarova

Former figure skater Vera Bazarova believes that the level of pair skating has fallen in Russia and abroad.

Bazarova, together with Yuri Larionov, became the silver medalist of the 2012 European Championship.

— There is a general decline in pairs skating, both domestically and internationally. It is unpleasant to see how a couple who wins a prize performs a double axel in a short program, and the partner also falls from it. The reason for this may be the lack of direct competition. Previously, Russian couples were an engine of progress, a source of motivation. Now all this is missing both our guys and our foreign rivals,” Bazarova quotes in the “Championship”.

On November 23 and 24, the fifth stage of the Russian Grand Prix will take place in Saint Petersburg. Three duos will participate in the doubles tournament.
